The OCWR organization will provide ready-to-use compost absolutely free of charge. At Bee Canyon Greenery and Capistrano Greenery, residents are encouraged to bring their own containers or sturdy bags for household waste. As well as a shovel to load the compost. Valencia Greenery will distribute pre-filled bags of compost. And each household will be able to receive up to four bags while supplies last.

What is compost?

This is organic material that is formed as a result of natural decomposition of food, plant residues, leaves, twigs. The decomposition process takes place under the influence of microorganisms, bacteria, fungi in a moist and oxygenated environment. Compost is useful for farming and gardening. It adds nutrients to the soil, improves its structure and ability to retain moisture, and promotes plant growth. And it also helps reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfills and reduces the negative impact on the environment.

OC Waste & Recycling says the initiative is designed to provide residents with useful compost for use on personal lots and at home. At the same time, Orange County residents can drop off household hazardous waste at one of four collection centers. They are located in Anaheim, Huntington Beach, Irvine, and San Juan Capistrano. And are open Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Even small efforts make a big difference. And recycling can save resources and help preserve our planet.
